A Beach Session at Sunset with Toddlers | Smithtown Family Photographer

Pinch me, am I dreaming? Is this awesome Summer weather for real? I have been embracing every second of this weather and much of that involves spending time down by the shore. My favorite time to go to the beach is late afternoon into the evening hours. I love how serene the beach is at this time of day and I love to watch the colors of the sky, sun and ocean change as sunset approaches. These gorgeous soft colors are what make it the perfect location for photos.

My favorite type of session to photograph is the family session. I am always honored when families entrust me to document their loved ones for them. For many families with young children, this is the first time they are having photos taken together as a family. In fact, many of them have not had professional photos taken since their wedding. I also know that for families with young children, parents worry about whether or not their children will cooperate for the session. Fortunately, I have two young children of my own and I know a few tricks to keep the kids engaged in the session and I like to keep things fun for the kids.

This recent session was so much fun to capture. Mom is a former colleague of mine from the school at which I used to teach. Our weddings were a few weeks apart and we gave birth to both our children around the same time. It was so great to see her and meet her family. Her children are not only polite and well behaved, but they are super sweet and fun!

We had the absolute perfect night for a sunset beach session. Although it was a hot and sticky day, the cool ocean breeze made the night mild and comfortable.  We started the session with some posed images. I always like to get that one posed family portrait out of the way at the start of the session so we can spend the rest of the time playing in the waves.  I always want to capture you interacting with your children, whether it be hugging and kissing them or running around together.  Your family photos should represent you as a family in this very moment. What I love the most about this session is that in almost every picture that I took of this family, they were laughing and having fun. I truly felt the love and bond between all of them.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session. I am still booking beach sessions and shoot on the beach until late September. I only have limited availability left. If you would like more information about a session or would like to book a session, contact me.
