A Blue Hour Family Session | Wantagh Family Photographer

If you haven’t noticed it yet, the recent forest fires out west have created some hazy skies over the past week. Consequently, the sunset has quite a different look to it lately. I am not complaining because I absolutely love the dramatic look that this unique sky creates.

I usually shoot at golden hour, which is the hour right before sunset, but because of the haze created by the fires, this recent session turned into a “blue hour” session, which is the 20-30 minutes that follows sunset. This time of day is equally as gorgeous. The light is soft and filtered, the sky has a blue and pink hue and it often creates for very visually interesting images.

I went to high school with this recent client and I photographed his family last year at the tree farm. I love his wife and I feel like I have known her for years. Their boys are so adorable, so well behaved and so fun! As a matter of fact, the entire family was a blast to work with. They are fun, easy going and they all followed directions and prompts perfectly. I love that I was able to capture so many fun, spirited and connected images of them as a family. It is always my goal for a family session to capture images that capture you as a family right now. I want you to be able to look back at these photos years from now and remember exactly how special this time with your family was.

With school aged children, these sessions tend to be playful and energetic, which is exactly what I want to see happen. Now don’t get me wrong, I spend the time capturing the formal, “all eyes on camera” images for you because I know that you want those captures, but what I am more concerned about photographing is your bond as a family.

This family slayed their session and I love their gallery of images.

Here are a few of my favorite images from this fun filled session.

If you are interested in a session, contact me. I open booking for beach sessions in February and they are scheduled June to September.
