I worked with this recent client when her first daughter was born and also for her daughter’s first birthday session. When she contacted me to tell me she was pregnant with her second child, I was elated to now only photograph her family again for a newborn session, but to also see how much her daughter has grown in the past few years.

Because she was having such a wonderful pregnancy, she decided that she wanted to also schedule a maternity session to commemorate this special stage. I love when women book maternity sessions. They are so important for a multitude of reasons. I especially love the idea of documenting you family together before the dynamic changes with a additional child.

My client really wanted to schedule her photos in an area with cherry blossoms in bloom. I absolutely love photographing families at locations that have this beautiful tree in bloom. However, to do so requires some flexibility and strategic planning. As you know, once the cherry blossoms are in bloom, they do not last very long. This is especially true if there are consecutive rainy or windy days. This weather can destroy the delicate blooms. Thankfully, despite a rainy 24 hours, the blooms at this location remained in tact and we were able to shoot at this pretty spot.

I have so many captures of this sweet family together, but the real star of this session was my client’s adorable five year old daughter. Like most children, she was full of energy and laughter and there were so many moments that I had to capture of her sweet little smile.

Let’s take a moment to talk about the amazing styling. Prior to the session, my client tried on a bunch of dresses from my client closet and opted for this pretty lace off the shoulder maxi dress in mauve. I love the jacket and pants look for dad and you can’t go wrong with a dress that has the twirl factor for a little girl. The color combo is soft and perfect for this beautiful Spring location.
