A Maternity Session at the Beach | Kings Park Family Photographer
When another photographer chooses you to photograph her family, it is a true honor. It is also extra exciting because you know that you are going to have an epic session. Photographers and their families tend to be naturals in front of the camera and this recent family was no exception to that rule.
It can often be difficult to predict the weather for beach sessions. Beach weather is erratic and often contrary to what the radar and weather reports. The night of this session was a whacky night in terms of weather. It was one of those evenings that called for thunderstorms at the exact time of our session. Even though we had a rain date as a back up, my client was willing to throw the dice and pray for a dry evening. I am so glad we went for it because the sky was so amazing and changed hues and cloud patterns throughout the evening. Although I love a good sunset session, cloudy evenings are now my favorite to shoot conditions to shoot in. I just love the moody dimension that clouds give to photos. Thankfully, it never rained, but there were a few points during the session that it seemed like the sky would open up.
My client dressed perfectly for the weather. When it is cloudy, it is best to wear colors that pop against the beach. She went with a palette of blues and pinks. I always say that you can never go wrong with this color combo at the beach. In fact, she was wearing a blush pink maxi from one of my favorite vendors, Baltic Born. This vendor has gorgeous dresses that work for photo sessions. I just recently added a few from their site to my client closet.
Although my client is 8 months pregnant, we went with more family photos than maternity images. It is always nice to capture those special moments as a family of three. it is something you will want to remember years from now and it truly is such a special time. I was happy to sneak in a few maternity portraits though. I am so glad I did because my client is simply glowing with beauty. I know we don’t always feel our best when we are pregnant, but it is so important to capture images of yourself with your baby bump. I promise you will look back at them fondly years from now when your babies are grown.
I need to get to the most important part of this session…the little boy. Have you ever seen a child more adorable than him? I definitely don’t think I have ever photographed a child with eyes as blue as his. To top it off, he was the sweetest and happiest little boy.
It was a delight to work with this sweet family and I am kind of obsessed with their gallery of images. Here are a few of my favorites.
