Lifestyle Inspired Family Newborn Sessions in the Studio
When potential clients contact me about newborn sessions, I always recommend scheduling a family newborn session. This type of session allows the client to get a blend of posed portraiture, as well as some lifestyle images of the family interacting with the baby. Many clients want to schedule in home family newborn sessions, but fear their home is too dark or does not have the "look" they want for their baby's first photos. Other clients have told me that they prefer the "polished" look and brighter aesthetic that a studio session provides.
My Long Beach studio provides the perfect solution for those parents who want the look of a lifestyle session in a controlled lighting environment. The studio family session is lifestyle inspired and a bit more posed than the photos I would take in a client's home. My studio and my sets are all neutral colored. I use an abundance of natural light and a little bit of studio light, which allows me to capture bright and airy images of your family.
I do not photograph your family or the baby on backdrops, but rather in more natural ways. For example, I typically will start the session with your whole family cuddled up on a gorgeous antique bed with ivory bedding. After that we move on to her natural poses, such as dad in an armchair with the baby or the whole family on the couch; it varies based on the family I am photographing. I even have a crib for those parents who prefer natural and organic portraits of their newborn over posed beanbag images. I always make sure to include natural and organic images of the baby alone. As always, my approach to posing baby is to do so in a natural and safe way.
