Just the Eight of Us | A Family Session with Older Children
I recently photographed a family with six children, the youngest of which are beautiful twin girls. I was amazed at how calm and relaxed mom and dad were and how amazingly happy and connected everyone in the family was. Love really abounds in the family; in particular, amongst the siblings. It was so touching to watch the way the oldest siblings interacted with their younger siblings in such a loving and nurturing manner.
The oldest daughter contacted me about this session because she wanted to gift her mom a session with all of her children. I know I might be biased, but I can’t think of a more meaningful gift for a parent to receive. The images will last a lifetime and will be treasured by not only mom and dad, but all of their children as well.
The family wanted a beach session and their session took place on a beautiful and warm August evening. The weather was erratic on the day of their session, teetering between dense fog, intense sunlight, and scattered rain, but the weather was perfect in that hour before sunset during which time I schedule all family photo sessions. At the very end of the session, some menacing fog rolled in, but it was only present for the very last photo I snapped of the family and I love the moodiness that the fog creates.
Many times moms with older children shy away from photo sessions. Teenagers tend to be camera shy and don’t necessarily want to participate in a photo session. I try my best to make it painless and fun for them and for you. When you have older children, it is the perfect time to update your family photos. Soon they will be off to college or out on their own and it is the perfect time to capture that unique bond that you share with them. After all, they may be young adults, but they are still your babies and every stage in life with your children deserves to be documented.
Here are a few of my favorites from the session.
