Classic Family Studio Newborn Session | Port Washington Baby Photographer
My approach to newborn photography is a bit different than other photographers. As opposed to photographing baby in an array of props and outfits, I center my sessions around the family and their interaction with baby. I do this because I know that years from now when baby is grown, you are going to want images that capture those first few moments with him. I know sometimes as moms, we don't feel our best right after delivery and would rather not be in photos, but years from now you will be so grateful to have photos that document those precious first moments with your baby.
My family newborn sessions are modeled after my in home lifestyle newborn sessions. Of course, because the session takes place in a studio setting, there is a little more posing involved. Regardless, the images are classic, natural, and heartfelt. My studio is perfect for those who prefer a very polished bright, modern, and classic aesthetic for their gallery of newborn images.
I start each session with the whole family cuddled on a bright white bed. Then we move on the images of both mom, dad, and siblings with baby. I also make sure to include some polished portraits of baby using my classic white backdrop or for those who prefer a moodier and rustic look, against my handmade rustic wood backdrop. Of course, the sequencing of how I photograph the family really depends on the baby’s disposition. I try to get the portraits of baby done whenever she falls asleep. The beauty of this type of session is that baby only needs to be asleep for the portrait portion of the session. In fact, I prefer that baby is awake during the family segment of the session because it allows for more natural connection and interaction. Most of the time, these sessions last about two hours.
I recently photographed this sweet family in my studio. This was a fun session because I also got to meet the grandparents of the new baby who were visiting from Puerto Rico. Within minutes of meeting this wonderful family, it became apparent that Baby P definitely has a lot of love in his life. Little P stayed asleep for nearly the entire session and even slept through numerous swaddle and outfit changes. Big brother was so sweet and gentle with his new baby brother and it is quite obvious that he is going to be the best big brother ever. I was so excited to finally be able to use my gorgeous velvet couch that I recently added to the studio. I am in love with the way it photographs and I really like the diversity that it allows me to provide families with for their galleries. Here are a few images from this sweet family's session.
