A High School Sweetheart Engagement | Wantagh Surprise Proposal Photographer

There are certain things in life that never get old to me. Two of those things are photographing surprise proposals and the other is sunset. When I am able to combine those two things, it is magical. I mean, how awesome is it to be able to document a couple embarking on their journey through life together? It is a true honor and one that I never take lightly.

I recently was able to photograph the most adorable couple. They are high school sweethearts and have been dating for 10 years. When I first spoke to my client, he wasn’t exactly sure where he wanted to propose, but he wanted it to be unexpected for her and to take place on the water at sunset. I helped him come up with a plan and location and was excited to be able to capture this moment for them.

The evening of this session was simply spectacular. It was 76 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and it truly felt like a Summer evening. I arrived at the location about 45 minutes early to ensure that no hiccups occurred in the plan that my client and I concocted together. I always arrive early because if any eventuality occurs that could thwart the plan, I can handle it prior to the couple’s arrival. My goal is always to make this entire experience stress free for my client.

When they arrived, I was hiding in plain sight amongst the crowd and ready to photograph. It was an absolutely beautiful proposal and the bride to be’s reaction was emotional and moving. I was so happy for them and I felt a sigh of relief for my client because I know he has been planning this for some time. Even better, the plan was executed perfectly and without a hitch.

I gave them some time to catch their breathe and we set off to take some engagement photos of the newly engaged couple. Although I love capturing the big moment, I think this is my favorite part of the session. Couples are so overtaken by happiness that the engagement photos are always so connected and light hearted. Plus, when the sunset is as golden and spectacular as the one we had, it makes the images even more fun to capture.

I just adored working with this couple. They were so fun, energetic and in love. I know they will have a beautiful life together. Here are some of my favorites from the evening.
