Newborn Sessions with Toddlers | Lifestyle Newborn Photography

I had so many newborn sessions in November and loved every second of them. All of these sessions were scheduled right in the comfort of my clients’ homes. This particular client opted for the in home session because she also has two children under five and felt that scheduling the photos in her home would be the best route for her family. I couldn’t agree more, which is why I currently only offer in home newborn sessions. I want you all to be comfortable and at ease during your session, so we can focus on capturing beautiful images of your newly expanded family.

This family was so sweet to work with. They live in a beautiful historic home that was remodeled, yet still retained the integrity of the historic structure of the house. I love old homes and it was a thrill to be able to photograph a family in such a gorgeous space. Your home truly is the best backdrop for baby photos and will allow your images to be unique to your own individual style and personality.

When I first arrived, the two girls were eager and ready to to take photos, which was perfect for me because I like to start my sessions off with sibling photos. I find with younger children it is best to capture those photos at the start of a session. These two girls doted on their baby brother and clearly are in love with him. The sisters also have such a sweet bond. It was such a pleasure to capture them. In some instances when toddler aged children are not so eager to jump right into photos, being in your home allows them to feel safe and secure and when they are ready, we can capture the beautiful sibling photos you are hoping for. For this particular session, we didn’t really need to take breaks, but the option is always there to do so if need be.

I made sure to capture plenty of sibling images, family images, and then I moved onto some of the other captures including solo images of both mom and dad with the baby. Grandma was in for a visit from the Carolinas, so we made sure to include some photos of her with both the baby and all of the grandchildren as well.

I ended the session with some propped images of the baby alone. I always give my clients an option for portraits during lifestyle sessions. Some clients prefer more natural portraits of the baby, while others want those polished studio like portraits, so I always bring along a prop or two from which clients can choose. This is the only portion of the session during which time the baby needs to be asleep, so I typically end my sessions with these images. However, if a baby is cozy and soundly sleeping at the start of the session, we will start with those photos. I always follow the lead of the babies during these sessions.

Here are a few of my favorite images from this sweet little baby boy’s very first photo session.
