Reasons Why Spring is a Great Time for Family Photos
It’s no secret that the Spring is a highly desired time to take family portraits. This time of year is one of new life, growth, and possibility. Although you are likely to be out a about more, family schedules aren’t jam packed yet. If you are not sure about what time of year is best for your family photos, keep reading to see why Spring is one of the best times to schedule a portrait session.
Why is Spring the Best Times to Take Family Photos?
Reason 1: More Availability for Scheduling
Winter is a slow season for photography. Most of the sessions booked during that time of year are for milestones, birthdays and newborns. This means there is more availability for sunset and outdoor family sessions. Furthermore, most photographers in the Long Island area are excited to start shooting outdoors again. I am sure you and your little ones are equally excited to be outdoors again. If you are thinking of booking a Spring family session, be sure to contact your photographer several weeks ahead of time, especially if you are trying to have a certain flower or tree in bloom during your shoot. This will give you the best chance of getting the date that works best for your schedule.
Reason 2: Spring Blooms
Let’s face it…Spring colors are joyful and lively. The sight of field of blooming flowers or cherry blossoms at peak bloom is sure to make you feel instant jopy and give your images a beautiful look. There is no other time of year that is quite as beautiful as Springtime. Spring blooms make the perfect backdrop for your family photos. Not only are they colorful and unique, but are elegant and timeless. When scheduling your spring session, keep in mind that cherry trees generally reach peak blossom during the first half of April, and tulips bloom during the second half.
Reason 3: Earlier Start Times for Session
Although many people love the Summer, sunset is very late in the Summer with start times in the 7-8 pm range. This is too late for many families with young children. A great alternative is to schedule your session in the Spring during which time the start time will be in the 5-5:30 range. This means we can schedule your session during golden hour for the most flattering light and your kids can still make it to bed on time.
Reason 4: Spring Wardrobe Options
The colors and patterns associated with a Spring wardrobe are romantic, flattering and timeless. Think of soft feminine flowing dresses, linen fabrics, and floral details…these are all perfect for the season. You simply can’t go wrong with a Spring color palette consisting of light neutrals and soft pastels. Plus, it’s warm enough to wear light layers or breezy fabrics, but not so hot that you’ll be uncomfortable or have to worry about sweating. I have tons of options in my client closet that work for the Spring and beyond. In fact, my client and her mom re both wearing dresses from my client closet. The two piece Joyfolie skirt set is brand new and I was so excited that my client selected it for the session. My client closet is replete with dresses from Free People, Joyfolie, Vici, and other vendors who produce quality garments that are photo ready.
Reason 5: Yay! Warmer Weather is Here
After the long, cold Long Island Winter, you are ready to let loose and have some fun in the fresh air and sun. It is the perfect time to finally have those photos of you and your loved ones captured in the beautiful backdrop of Spring.
Reason 6: No Rain Date Needed
It is no secret that Spring can be a rainy time of year, but the greatest thing about this time of year is that if it rains, we can easily switch to a greenhouse or nursery as the back up location. This time of year those locations are replete with gorgeous florals that will give the perfect amount of color to your images. This was the case for this recent session shown in the blog post.
