The Most Magical Beach Proposal
I know I say it all the time, but I truly love photographing proposals. There is nothing quite as special as capturing couples as they embark on their life’s journey together. I am always humbled and honored when I am asked to photograph engagements and as my clients will tell you, I put my heart and soul into ensuring that your day goes off without a hitch. I want your day to be absolutely perfect and I will work with you to make sure it is nothing short of that.
Stunning Beach Sunset Proposal
We had a few weeks of some odd hazy weather in New York that were caused by the Canadian wildfires. Just a few days prior to this engagement session, New York was shrouded in a thick and dense orange haze. Thankfully, this smoke cleared out in time for this romantic beach proposal. Even though the majority of the smoke was gone, there were still remnants of the haze on this evening, but I didn’t mind because it helped to create a really stunning sunset.
This June night was beyond spectacular, It was a mild 68 degrees on the beach and there were only five or six people on the beach at sunset time. The light was soft, filtered and beautiful and it created a vibrant and blue sky and ocean.
The couple arrived and as soon as they got there, my client got on his knee to ask his beautiful girlfriend the big question. It was quite an emotional moment. Of course, the girlfriend was overwhelmed with emotion and said, yes. No matter how many of these surprise proposals I capture, I always get emotional and teary at this moment. I know how special this time is and I am so overjoyed for these couples. I always tell my clients, I feel the engagement is even happier than the wedding day itself because this is when your life together truly starts.
Engagement Mini Session
After I capture the entire array of emotions of that secret proposal, I usually back off and give the couple a few minutes to take in the emotions of this moment. Most of the time, the girlfriend needs this moment to process what just happened and my client needs a minute to decompress from all of the planning that goes into this moment.
When they are ready, it is time for the real fun to start! That is when we do a quick 15-20 minute enagement mini session. This is when I capture some really beautiful portraits of the newly engaged couple. It is so nice to be able to capture these photos when the couple is high on love and on cloud nine from the rush of emotions. There truly is nothing like the rush of emotions you feel right after getting engaged!
This couple was so fantastic to work with. They were filled with laughter and there was so much love between them. We were so blessed to have such a stunning sunset on this evening. I made sure to capture lots of romantic images of the couple running through the ocean at sunset together. There is something about the golden light at this time of day that just seems to capture all of the romance of an engagement perfectly and this evening was no exception.
After we were done with the engagement mini session, I surprised the couple with a bottle of LaMarca prosecco for the couple to celebrate with. It is always nice to commemorate the evening with some bubbly. After they popped the bottle and I captured some fun images of them, I left them on their own to sip on their drinks and enjoy those last few minutes of sunset alone together. I always encourage my clients to take a few moments alone together before they head out to meet up with friends and family. It is a nice way to really let the moment sink in and to have some privacy in doing so.
