A Summer Family Session at the Garden | Farm Family Photography

There are so many aspects of my job that I adore. I am so blessed to be able to work with so many amazing people and I always feel humbled that they have chosen me to document their special occasions for them. Not only do I get to work with new people all the time, but my job also provides me the opportunity to explore new and exciting places. Don’t get me wrong, beach photography is my jam, but the artist in me feels pure glee when I can document families in new and interesting locations. I recently shot a natural and relaxed birthday session at a completely new location and I am excited to share the images with you.

When my client first contacted me about scheduling a first birthday session for her youngest son, she told me that she did not want a session filled with props or a cake smash; but rather, she wanted natural images of her son. Of course, her words were like music to my ears because I prefer to shoot without the use of props. In fact, in the warmer months, I always suggest outdoor sessions to my clients for children’s photos. Shooting outdoors allows me to get the most authentic and natural looking images possible; additionally, these type of images are classic and can hang on your walls for years to come.

Mom suggested a local cooperative farm and garden that is special to her family as the location for her family session. When I first scouted the location, I was giddy with delight. There was an abundance of brightly colored roses peppered throughout the farm and the light at sunset was majestic. I knew this session was going to be a memorable one.

The birthday boy was a true champion during his session. He was up an hour past his normal bedtime and still was happy as could be and rocked put some mile wide smiles for his birthday portraits. Big brother was super fun to photograph and was replete with laughter and energy. I absolutely love the images of him laughing and running; it is my ultimate goal to take photos of toddlers that capture the essence of childhood. I always sneak in the formal posed shots, but my favorites are alway those that are of a child in motion. We ended the session with a few photos in front of the Airstream food truck that is on the farm. I am a sucker for vintage campers, so I knew we had to get a fe photos in front of the beautiful silver bullet. I love how the gallery really highlights the birthday boy, but also shows the personality, bond and love of the family unit.

Here are a few of my favorites from their session. I am still booking sessions for the summer, contact me if you wish to schedule an appointment or for more information.
