A Fall Family Session on a Warm November Evening
The weather here on Long Island has been amazing this month. With the exception of a few cold days, the weather has been in the upper 50s to 60s. In fact, I haven’t been cold for any of my outdoor sessions and I am ALWAYS cold. I am not complaining because the frigid winter weather is right around the corner.
I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family over the Summer for a beach family session. I was thrilled when my client reached out to me to book a Fall family session. This group of four is not only gorgeous, but so sweet and fun. I laughed throughout the session and truly had a blast with them.
My client dressed her family in a lovely autumnal palette and she wore an exquisite dress from Joyfolie that was just made for her skin tone. The added accessories such as the boho hat and fur vests added the perfect amount of visual interest to the wardrobe. Texture is everything in a photo session, so it is super important to add layers to your wardrobe whenever you can.
I chose one of my favorite locations for their session because I wanted a location that had foliage, but also had some whimsy to it. I also wanted to make sure that I could filter the light so that I could capture the gorgeous blue tones of the sky that evening. I really wanted their images to have a completely different look from their past photo session and both the location and wardrobe were key elements to achieving this goal.
Although part of this family photoshoot was dedicated towards capturing solo and head shots of big sister, I was also able to capture plenty of family images, sibling images and solo shots of baby sis. These two children were a dream and were super eager to participate in the photos. One of the reasons why I like this particular location is because it gives children the opportunity to explore, which in turn allows for really beautiful and natural images. My favorite captures from this evening are those in which the children are exploring and the family is cuddling and in the moment.
The sky on the evening of this session was nothing short of magical. The clouds were like puffs of cotton candy against the pale blue sky. It was like a painting brought to life. I made sure to leave plenty of time at the end of the session to head out into the open field so I could capture the family’s love for one another juxtaposed with that sunset sky.
Here are some of my favorites from the day.
